Additive manufacturing applied to the industrial sector is revolutionising the production of metal parts, with several advantages over conventional production techniques. Among the additive manufacturing techniques for metals, selective metal laser melting (SLM), electron beam melting (EBM), or particularly powder metal melting by laser beam (PBF) stand out. All of them are governed by high safety standards and regulations, reaching the strictest quality levels demanded by sectors such as aeronautics and the automotive. However, the production and quality controls of these new technologies present several risks and challenges, as these parts often have complex geometries, low thicknesses, internal defects, or even porous structures. Therefore, the characterisation and inspection of those metal pieces is quite challenging. As a solution, Novadep provides radiography and tomography equipment with reconstruction software that allows 360º scanning in detail by a non-destructive way. In addition, we develop customised methodologies for characterisation and defectology detection.
